Frequently Asked Questions

Will my insurance cover therapy?
As an out-of-network provider, I am not paneled with any insurance company. Depending on your plan, you may be able to have some portion of your therapy service reimbursed. I recommend you call your plan directly, and ask what their reimbursement rates are for CPT code 90834-95 (individual tele-therapy) or CPT code 90847-95 (couple's tele-therapy) for U.S. based out-of-network providers. The full cost of session is due at the time of the appointment. I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance upon request.

How is Discernment Counseling different from Therapy?
Discernment counseling is NOT therapy. It is a short-term consultation that lasts between 1-5 sessions, with the first session being 2 hours, and each subsequent session lasting 90 minutes, allowing for both joint time and individual time. Rather than focusing primarily on change that leads to improving the relationship, discernment counseling focuses solely on helping partners gain clarity and confidence about whether to stay together or part ways. It typically precedes a commitment to couple's therapy, and is reserved for couples where one partner is leaning out of the relationship (considering separation/divorce) while the other is leaning in (hoping to save the relationship).

Because discernment counseling is not therapy, it is not eligible fore insurance reimbursement. If decrement counseling leads to both partners committing to the work of couple's therapy, any couple's sessions thereafter can be compiled in a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

Discernment Cost: you can expect to pay at most $1728 (for the full 5 sessions), and at least $432 (if you decide to stop after the first session). The price breakdown is as follows:
Session 1: 2 hours, $432
Sessions 2 to 5: 90 minutes, $324/session

How is Coaching different from Therapy?
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I offer both individual or couples therapy and one-to-one or relationship coaching because not every client needs the same kind of support. Therapy is designed to help individual and partners heal from emotional pain, work through recurring conflict, address trauma or mental health concerns, and create lasting change at a deeper level. Coaching, by contrast, is for individuals or couples who are functioning well overall but want intentional guidance to strengthen communication, improve connection, prepare for marriage, navigate life transitions, or build healthier relationship habits.

Offering both services allows me to meet clients where they are. Together, we'll determine whether a therapeutic or coaching approach is the best fit for your goals. While I bring the same relationship expertise to both, coaching is a distinct, non-therapeutic service focused on growth, accountability, and practical strategies rather than clinical mental health treatment.

Coaching also gives clients the freedom to work with me regardless of where they are located. Because coaching is not designed to diagnose or treat mental health conditions, this service is not eligible for insurance reimbursement. Thus, no superbill will be provided for coaching services.

Can you work with me if I currently live outside the US?
Because I offer both clinical therapy services as well as individual and relational coaching services, I'm able to work with clients in most locations overseas. If you have more questions, I offer a free 15-minute video consultation to discuss what service best suits your current needs.
